Welcome to my website as Police and Crime Commissioner for North Yorkshire. I was elected to serve as your Police and Crime Commissioner on 15 November 2012 and this site will keep you up to date with what I am doing, where and when.
As the Police and Crime Commissioner for North Yorkshire, it is my job to listen to you and your community to ensure that the police and other local organisations are doing what they need to in order to keep North Yorkshire and the City of York one of the safest areas in the Country.
I will make myself accessible on a regular basis; more details can be found here on the public events that I will be attending. There are other ways that you can keep up to date with what I am doing and to contact me, and I would like to encourage you to get in touch.
Part of my role is to hold the Chief Constable to account for the delivery of policing services across the force area as well as updating the Police and Crime Plan, setting the force's budget and precept (the element that each household pays towards policing in their council tax) and appointing the Chief Constable.
It is not for me to tell Police Officers what to do - operational independence of the police is maintained through the chief constables retaining direction and control of the forces officers and staff - who is arrested and how investigations work are not decisions made by me. However, I will ensure that the direction of the police service takes account of and is influenced by the views of communities in North Yorkshire and the City of York.
